This new project (2024) will engage primary age students and young families with UoS aurora research through the AuroraZoo project by the Solar Environment Physics (SEP) group.
Building on our experience of using language and the arts in combination with science research subjects this pilot will focus more on storytelling. The workshops will showcase the story of the scientist working to unravel the mysteries of the aurora’s shapes and movement in the Arctic but being interrupted by polar bears looking for food. By the end of the pilot, students will also understand how both the humans and polar bears who live in Svalbard are affected by climate change and how research into the aurora can be used to better understand climate change.
